30x + 4 = 86
You need to isolate the x value so use the opposite of 4 (which is negative 4) to rid of the 4 (remember to make it even by doing this on both sides)

30x + 4 + -4 = 86 + -4
30x = 82
Now isolate the x once more by using inverse operations. Since the x is being multiplied by 30 we shall use division to cancel the 30 out. (Do on both sides)

30x/30 = 82/30
X = 2.733333333333333 or 41/15

Sorry if this is incorrect.

Question:

Solve the following equation:

30x + 4 = 86

Solution:

Let the following equation:

30x\text{ + 4 = 86}

if we subtract 4 from both sides of the equation we get:

30x\text{ = 86}-4

this is equivalent to:

30x\text{ = }82

solving for x (divide both sides of the equation by 30), we get:

x\text{ = }(82)/(30)

this is equivalent to:

x\text{ = }(82)/(30)=\text{ 2.73}

Then, we can conclude that the correct answer is:

x\text{ = 2.73}
