It is known that there are 52 cards in a pack of playing cards.

It is also known that there are 13 hearts in a pack.

It follows that the total number of outcomes is 52 and the number of favorable outcomes is 13.

Recall the Probability formula:

P=\frac{Number\text{ of favorable outcomes}}{Total\text{ number of outcomes}}

Substitute the values into the formula:

P=(13)/(52)=(1)/(4)

The required probability is 1/4.
