The reason the United states and Soviet Union, during the Cold War the United States and the Soviet Union engaged a competition to see who had the best technology in space. the United States spent about $30 billion on the space race from the time the Soviet Union launched its Sputnik satellite in 1957 until the moon landing in 1969. I believe the purpose of the space race was to spark inspiration for Spacecraft that may improve our lives.
