A person throws a shot put with an initial vertical velocity of 45 feet per second from a height of 6 feet. Use the vertical motion model, h = -16t^2 + vt+s where v is the initial velocity in feet per second and s is the height in feet, to calculate how long the shot put will be in the air for. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

h = -16t^2 + vt+s

h= -16t^2 + 45*t + 6 (Replacing the values)

We need to calculate the vertex of the parabola.

The x-coordinate of the vertex would be:

Vx= -b/(2a) (Based on the equation ax^2+bx + c and t = x)

Vx= -45/(2*(-16)) (Replacing)

Vx= -45/-32 (Multiplying)

Vx= 1.4 (Dividing and using the sign rules)

Since x=t then we can say that the answer is equal to 1.4 seconds.
