FOIL

F = first

O = order

I = inner

L = last

(x - 3)(4x + 2)

F = x(4x)

O = 2(x)

I = (-3)(4x)

L = (-3)(2)

= F + O + I + L

Therefore,

x(4x) + 2(x) + (-3)(4x) + (-3)(2)
