Answer:

a. w = weight (lbs)

b. cost = 1.45w + 3.25

c. w = 4 lbs

Explanation:

we can say that variable w stands for the weight of the package (in pounds).

using this, we know that the cost to ship a package is going to be equal to $1.45 per pound or 1.45w, but we can't forget about the service fee. the service fee doesn't change, so we just add that to our equation to get

cost = 1.45w + 3.25

lastly, we can solve

($9.05) = 1.45w + 3.25

(isolate w by subtracting 3.25 from both sides)

9.05 - 3.25 = 1.45w

5.8 = 1.45w

(divide both sides by 1.45 to get w by itself)

(5.8)/(1.45) = (1.45w)/(1.45)

(evaluate)

w = 4

(don't forget units)

w = 4 lbs

hope this helps :)

Answer: for a variable it can be anything but I choose P for pounds per package. equation is P(1.45)+3.25=(total price). solution= P=4 pounds.

Explanation:

This is because if you follow the equation I made and input 4 instead of P you get 5.8 then add 3.25 to 5.8 and you get a total price of 9.05.
