A warehouse has 12 and nine-tenths meters of tape in one area of the building, and eight and three-fifths meters of tape in another part. How much tape does the warehouse have in all?

To solve this problem, we will add two mixed numbers, with the fractional parts having unlike denominators.


12(9)/(10)+8(3)/(5)=12(9)/(10)+8(6)/(10)=20(15)/(10)=21(5)/(10)=21(1)/(2)

Then the answer is the mixed number 21 1/2
