A brand of laundry soap is packaged in a new bottle. The new label claims to have 140% as much as the old bottle. The new bottle contains 175 ounces of soap. How many ounces of soap were in the old bottle?

In order to calculate how many ounces the old bottle had, we just need to divide the weight of the new bottle by the percentage increase:

\text{old bottle}=\frac{175}{140\text{\%}}=(175)/(1.4)=125

So the old bottle has 125 ounces.
