Does the table below show a proportional relationship? If so, what is the value of y when x is 20? If not, explain why not.

SOLUTION:

To check if the table shows a proportional relationship, we determine the constant of proportionality in each case, they should be equal in all cases for proportionality. Else, they are not.

\begin{gathered} x=ky \\ k=(x)/(y) \end{gathered}

Taking ratio corresponding x and y's we find that;

(12)/(3)\\e(14)/(11)\\e(16)/(19)\\e(18)/(27)

Thus, the table does NOT show a proportional relationship
