Let's find the quotient of the first two terms:

\begin{gathered} (-8x^2y^3)/(xy) \\ =-8xy^2 \end{gathered}

The product of 4xy and WHAT should give us -8xy^2.

Let's call this WHAT as "A", so we can write:

4xy(A)=-8xy^2

To get this unknow, A, we can see that we have to divide -8xy^2 by 4xy, so

\begin{gathered} 4xy(A)=-8xy^2 \\ A=(-8xy^2)/(4xy) \\ A=-2y \end{gathered}

The unknown quantity is "-2y". From the drop-down, it's the
