How can I set up and solve x - y if x = -2 and y = -3?

SOLUTION

From the question we want to solve


\begin{gathered} x-y \\ if\text{ } \\ x=-2\text{ and } \\ y=-3 \end{gathered}

Now, from the question, replace x with -2 and replace y with -3. This becomes


\begin{gathered} x-y \\ -2-(-3) \\ -(-\text{ means the minus signs will multiply and this will give +} \\ \text{Hence } \\ -2-(-3) \\ -2+3 \\ \text{Which is same as } \\ 3-2 \\ =1 \end{gathered}

Hence the answer is 1
