As per given by the question,

There are given that;

7 plain pencils and 5 pens in first box, and 5 color pencils and 5 crayons in the second box.

Now,

The total number of item in the first box is 7+5=12, and

The total number of item in the second box is 5+5=10.

Then,

The probability that, a plain pencil from the first box is,

(7)/(12)

The probability of color pencil from the second box is,

(5)/(10)=(1)/(2)

So,

The probability that a plain pencil from first box and a color pencil from the second box is,

\begin{gathered} P=(7)/(12)*(1)/(2) \\ =(7)/(24) \end{gathered}

Hence, the probability that a plain pencil from first box and a color pencil from the second box is,

(7)/(24)=0.292
