There are 3800 students at Lake High School and 2/5 of these students are freshmen. If 3/8 of the freshmen are opposed to the school forming a crew team and 1/8 of the remaining students (not freshmen) are also opposed to forming a crew team, how many students are in favor of this idea?

Total students (The unit 1) 3800

2/5 freshmen:

x=((2)/(5)\cdot3800)/(1)=(7600)/(5)=15201520 students are freshmen.

3/8 of freshmen are opposed

y=((3)/(8)\cdot1520)/(1)=(4560)/(8)=570570 freshman students are opposed.

1/8 of remainig studens are also opposed.

Students that are not freshman: 2280

3800-1520=2280

1/8 are opposed:

z=((1)/(8)\cdot2280)/(1)=(2280)/(8)=285285 remaining students are also opposed.

Students in favor of the idea are: 2945 (total of sudents less the opposed)
3800-570-285=2945
