One number is equal to the square of another. Find the numbers if both are positive and their sum is 1722

Let

x ------> one number

y -----> other number

we have that

x+y=1722

y=1722-x -------> equation A

x=√y -------> equation B

substitute equation A in equation B

x=√(1722-x)

squared both sides

x^2=1722-x

x^2+x-1722=0

solve by graphing

x=41

Find the value of y

y=1722-41

y=1681

therefore

the numbers are

41 and 1,681
