Hence $4.50 per hour is the rate of change.

Amount in tips each night = $10

Amount made per hour = $4.50

The rate of change will be the figure or amount that remains unchaged.

The above can be modelled in a linear form

Linear form: y = mx +c

y is the dependent variable

x is the independent variable

m is slope. And in this case, it is the rate of change

c is the constant.

Let y represent the total amount received each night

To represent our given question in a linear form as indicated above:

y = 4.5x + 10

x is the number of hours she worked

c is the additional money she receives (the tips)

m = 4.5. This is the rate of change.

Hence $4.50 per hour is the rate of change.
