Solution:

Given a right triangle;

To find the value of z, we apply the theorem that the sum of angles in a triangle is 180°,

Shown below to evaluate z, since it is a right angle, one of the angles is 90°


52\degree+z\degree+90\degree=180\degree

Collect like terms and solve for z


\begin{gathered} z\degree+142\degree=180\degree \\ z\degree=180\degree-142\degree \\ z\degree=38\degree \end{gathered}

Hence, the value of z is 38°
