Given

g(x)=x+1

You need to calculate the value of x for g(x)=3, replace it in the equation as follows:

3=x+1

And calculate for x, to do so, you can pass the "+1" to the other side of the equal sign by performin the oposite operation "-1" to both sides:

\begin{gathered} 3-1=x+1-1 \\ 2=x \end{gathered}

For x=2 g(x)=3
