We are given the measure of angle 4 (44 degrees) in the intersection of two parallel lines with a transverse one.

Notice that angle 4 has the same measure (44 degrees) as angle 8 for being alternate angles among parallels. On the other hand, the addition of angles 8 and 5 should be 180 degrees,

The we can write the following equation:

angle8 + angle5 = 180

44 + angle5 = 180

subtract 44 degrees from both sides:

angle5 = 180 - 44

angle5 = 136 degrees

Notice now, that angles 5 and 7 are opposed by the vertex (also called vertical opposite), so they must measure the same .

That means that:

angle5 = 136 degrees

angle7 = 136 degrees
