a) The altitude at the top of the hills will be -67 feet

b) Checkpoint 3 is 1,544 feet higher than checkpoint 4

Explanations:

a) Given the altitude above the sea level at checkpoint 2 to be -211 feet. If the top of the hill rises 144 feet above checkpoint 2, the altitude at the top of the hills will be;

Altitude at the top of the hills = -211 + 144

Altitude at the top of the hills = -67 feet

Hence the altitude at the top of the hills will be -67 feet

b) Altitude at checkpoint 3 = 1507 feet

Altitude at checkpoint 4 = - 37 feet

In order to know how much higher is checkpoint 3 than checkpoint 4, we will take the difference as shown:

Difference in height = 1507 - (-37)

Difference in height = 1507 + 37

Difference in height = 1,544 feet

This shows that checkpoint 3 is 1,544 feet higher than checkpoint 4
