A high school has 102 seniors, 81 juniors, 90 sophomores, and 100 freshmen. How many students should there be from each grade in a stratified sample that is 10% of the student body?

ANSWER:

There would be 10 seniors, 8 juniors, 9 sophomores, and 10 freshmen.

Explanation:

We must calculate 10% of each grade to know how many students per grade it should be.

We calculate it just like this:


\begin{gathered} senior=102\cdot(10)/(100)=10.2\cong10 \\ junior=81\cdot(10)/(100)=8.1\cong8 \\ sophomores=90\cdot(10)/(100)=9 \\ freshmen=100\cdot(10)/(100)=10 \end{gathered}
