At 1800 hours an IV is infusing at a rate of 20 gtt/min. How much can you expect the patient to receive during the next 7 hours and 20 minutes given a drop factor of 16 gtt/mL? Round your answer to the nearest mL.

..Given:

\begin{gathered} R=20(gtt)/(\min ) \\ T=7\text{hours and 20minutes} \\ F=16\frac{\text{gtt}}{mL} \end{gathered}

To Determine: The number of mL

Calculate the total number of gtt for the time given

\begin{gathered} 1\min =20\text{gtt} \\ 7\text{hours and 20minutes=7}*60\min utes+20\min utes=420+20=440\min utes \\ 440\text{minutes}=440*20gtt=8800gtt \end{gathered}

using the drop factor

\begin{gathered} 16\text{gtt}=1mL \\ 8800\text{gtt}=8800*(1)/(16)mL=550mL \end{gathered}

Hence, the mL the patient would receive is 550mL
