You know that the rule for the sequence given in the exercise is:

f\mleft(x\mright)=3x+1

According to the information given. For the input value

x=1

You get:

f\mleft(1\mright)=4

Because:

\begin{gathered} f\mleft(1\mright)=3(1)+1 \\ f(1)=3+1 \\ f(1)=4 \end{gathered}

The next input value you must substitute in the equation is:

x=5

Then, substituting and evaluating, you get:

\begin{gathered} f(5)=3(5)+1 \\ f(5)=15+1 \\ f(5)=16 \end{gathered}

The answer is: Option D.
