Let the age of the father is x and the age of the son is y

The father is currently 4 times as old as his son

So,

x=4y

Two years ago, he was 5 times as old as his son

So,

(x-2)=5(y-2)

by substitute from (x = 4y) in the last equation:

\begin{gathered} 4y-2=5(y-2) \\ 4y-2=5y-10 \\ 10-2=5y-4y \\ 8=y \end{gathered}

so, the age of the son = 8

So, the age of the father = 4 * 8 = 32

The answer is option d. 32
