We have been given that 8 pounds of flour were bought for $3

To get how much one pound of flour will cost, we can make c, the unit cost

We can cross multiply the expression above

8 x c = 3 x 1

8c = 3

To get c, divide both sides by 8

\begin{gathered} (8c)/(8)\text{ =}(3)/(8) \\ \\ c\text{ = }(3)/(8) \end{gathered}
C\text{ = }(3)/(8)\text{ = 0.375}

C = $ 0.375

So this means that Ivan paid 37.5 cents for every pound of flour
