A linear function has the form:

y=mx+b

where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept, bot constants.

As we see, the exponent of variable x is 1 for a linear function.

So, since the exponent in the given function y = 2x² is 2, this function is a nonlinear function.

In fact, it is a quadratic function.
