The coordinates below represent a triangle that was dilated. D(1,-2) D^ prime (8,-16) E (0,-3) E^ j (0,-24) F(-1,2) F^ j (-8,16) What was the scale factor that was used in the dilation ?

In order to determine the scale factor, you can calculate the quotient in between coordinates of points and prime points.

For example, for point D and D':

8/1 = 8

-16/(-2) = 8

for E and E':

-24/(-3) = 8

As you can notice, in all case the quotient is 8. It means that when you multiply the points D, E and F by 8, you obtain D', E' and F'.

Hence, the scale factor is 8
