Paul has thirteen coins in his piggy bank. Some of the coins are quarters, some are nickels, and he has a total of $3.55. Which system of equations can be used to determine how many quarters, x, and how many nickels, y, he has?

A.
x + y = 13
0.25x + 0.5y = 3.55

B.
x + y = 13
0.25x + 0.05y = 3.55

C.
x + y = 13
25x + 5y = 3.55

D.
x + y = 3.55
0.25x + 0.05y = 13

Answer:

The answer is B

Explanation:

you know that x is quarters which is .25 and you know that y is nickels which is .05

there are a total of 13 coins in the bank so x+y = 13

you also know that the 13 coins = 3.55

so plug in all that you know and the problem is

0.25x + 0.05y = 3.55
