a) 24 = 2/3 x + 12
b) 0.5(y + 12) = -2.5y - 8

Explanation:

A) 24 = 2/3 x + 12

Can also be written as : 12+2/3x =24

To find x we need to make it look more simple.

So something unknown +12 is 24 which is (2/3x)

To find it you'll minus.

24-12 =2/3x

=12 = 2/3x

Now that we know that 2/3 x equals 12 we still need one more step to get the value of x alone.

Since 2/3x is multiplication, we'll use division to get x alone.

X=12 ÷2/3

=18

So x is 18.

To check you can put it in the equation :

2/3 × 18 +12 =24.
