The theoretical probability that Caroline selects a lavender candle is 1/5

Here, we want to find the theoretical probability that the selected candle is a lavender

Firstly, we need to know the total number of candles

That would be the sum of individual candle types

That is 4 + 7 + 3 + 1 = 15

The number of lavender candles is 3

The probability that the a lavender is selected is the number of lavender candles divided by the total number of candles

We have this as 3/15 = 1/5
