Explanation:

The equation to find the females here would be x+(x+240)=2,916.

2x+240=2,916.

we subtract 240 from both sides to get 2,676. Now we divide this by 2.

2,676/2=1338. there are 1338 females in the city. We aren't done here.

we now add the 240 to this to find the males. 1338+240=1578

We now add 1338 and 1578 to get back to 2916!

The population is the male and females in the city. There is no point to this question to begin with. lol.
