White light in air (n = 1.00) strikescrown glass at 32.00°. Find thedifference in the refracted angles forgreen light (n = 1.526) and violet light(n = 1.538).

n1 sin a1 = n2 sin a2

n1 = 1

a1 =angle 1 = 32°

n2= 1.526

N3= 1.538

Apply:

1 sin (32) = 1.526 sin a2

sin (32) / 1.526 = sin a2

a2 = Arc sin ( sin (32) / 1.526 )

a2 = 20.32 °

Same for violet light:

1 sin (32) = 1.538 sin A3

arc sin (Sin 32 / 1.538 ) = a3

a3 = 20.15°

Green light = 20.32°

Violet light = 20.15 °

Difference = 20.32 -20.15 = 0.17°
