A single card drawn from an ordinary deck. what is the probability of each of the following events.

a. heart

b. jack and a spade

c. not a king

d. not a diamond

e. club or a diamond

f. ace of clubs

g. jack or a spade

h. both red or black

Remember that

we have 52 cards

so

Part a. heart

we have 13 heart's cards

so

P=13/52 ------> simplify ------> P=1/4 or 0.25

Part b. jack and a spade

we have 4 jacks ------> jack and spade is only one card

so

P=1/52

Part c. not a king

we have 4 kings

so

not a king we have 48 cards

so

P=48/52

Part d. not a diamond

we have 13 cards diamond

so

not a diamond we have 39 cards

P=39/52

Part e. club or a diamond

we have 13 cards club and 13 cards diamond

so

P=26/52 -----> P=1/2 0r 0.50

Part f. ace of clubs

we have 1 card ace of clubs

so

P=1/52

Part g. jack or a spade

we have 4 cards jacks and 13 cards spade (one card spade is a jack)

so

P=(4+12)/52

P=16/52

Part h. both red or black

we have 13 cards red and 13 cards black

so

P=52/52=1
