The work W done by a force F that acts over a particle along a distance d parallel to the force is:


W=Fd

Replace F=100N and d=10m to find the work done by an engine that applies a force of 100N and moves forward a distance of 10 meters:


W=\left(100N\right)\left(10m\right)=1000J

Therefore, the work done by that engine is equal to 1000J.
