One month Hans rented 4 movies and 8 video games for a total of $61. The next month he rented 2 movies and 3 video games for a total of $24. Find the rental cost for each movie and each video game.

Write the given situation in the form of system of equations.

Then the system becomes,


\begin{gathered} 4x+8y=61 \\ 2x+3y=24 \end{gathered}

Multiply second equation with 2 and subtract with first equation


\begin{gathered} 4x+8y=61 \\ 4x+6y=48 \\ 2y=13 \\ y=(13)/(2) \end{gathered}

Then x becomes, 4x+52=61


x=(9)/(4)

Hence the price of each movie is $9/4 and price of each video game is $13/2.
