Given data:

The total numbers of DVDs are n= 35.

The numbers of DVDs received as gift are g=8.

The number of DVDs received in three year are

\begin{gathered} r=n-g \\ =35-8 \\ =27 \end{gathered}

The number of the movies bought every year are,

\begin{gathered} a=(27)/(3) \\ =9 \end{gathered}

Thus, the number of the movies bought last year are 9.
