A baseball Dimond is a square with sides of 90 feet. What is the shortest distance, to the nearest tenth of a foot, between first base and third base?

Using the pythagorean theorem we get that:


\begin{gathered} d^2=(90ft)^2+(90ft)^2=2(90ft)^2 \\ d=\sqrt[]{2}(90ft)=127.3ft \end{gathered}

Note: the shortest distance between two points in a plane is a stright line, that is why we calculated d.
