The premium antifreeze solution contains 95% pure antifreeze.

The company wants to obtain 190 gallons of a mixture that contains 15% pure antifreeze.

How many gallons of water and how many gallons of premium antifreeze must be mixed?

x= gallons of water required

Since a 95% pure antifreeze means only 5% of water:

.05(190-x)+x=0.15(190)

9.5-0.05x+x=28.5

0.95x=28.5-9.5

0.95x=19

x=19/0.95

x=20

We need 20 gallons of water to produce 190 gallons of 15% pure antifreeze

190-20=170 gallons of 95% pure antifreeze

Water: 20 gallons

Premium antifreeeze: 170 gallons
