Explanation:

use the pythagorean thereom:

a² + b² = c²

a² = 11 × 11 = 121

b² = 10 × 10 = 100

c² = 121 + 100 = 221

now find the square root of 221:

√221 = 14.866...

round to the nearest tenth:

the 6 next to the 8 means round up.

so the hypotenuse is 14.9
