6(1)/(3)\cdot(1)/(2)=\text{?}

First we have to express the mixed fraction 6 1/3 into an improper fraction. To do this we have to retain the denominator , and the new numerator can be calculated by D x M + N ( where D is the denominator , M is the Mixed Number and N is the numerator.

M(N)/(D)\rightarrow(D\cdot M+N)/(D)
6(1)/(3)\rightarrow(3\cdot6+1)/(3)
6(1)/(3)=(19)/(3)

Now that we converted the mixed fraction, we will proceed to multiplication. In multiplying fractions, we only multiply the numerator by the numerator , and the same goes for the denominator.

6(1)/(3)\cdot(1)/(2)\Rightarrow(19)/(3)\cdot(1)/(2)=(19\cdot1)/(13\cdot2)=(19)/(6)

Answer:

6(1)/(3)\cdot(1)/(2)=(19)/(6)

We can convert the improper fraction 19/6 to mixed fraction by dividing the numerator by the denominator. In the quotient, the whole number is the new Mixed Number, the remainder is the new numerator and the denominator stays the same.

\begin{gathered} (19)/(6)=3(1)/(6) \\ \end{gathered}
