SOLUTION

From the diagram given, since triangle TVW is similar to triangle TUS, then the ratio of their corresponding sides would be equal, that is

$\begin{gathered} (TW)/(VW)=(TS)/(US) \\ (x)/(54)=(4)/(6) \\ 6* x=54*4 \\ 6x=216 \\ x=(216)/(6) \\ x=36 \end{gathered}$

Hence x = 36

Also

$\begin{gathered} (TV)/(VW)=(TU)/(US) \\ (27)/(54)=(y)/(6) \\ 54* y=27*6 \\ 54y=162 \\ y=(162)/(54) \\ y=3 \end{gathered}$

Hence y = 3
