A cell in a hypertonic solution will shrink itself by the loss of water and the increase in solutes inside it.

In a hypotonic solution, a cell would swell itself, by the increasing amount of water inside, and an increase in the concentration of solutes.

A cell in an isotonic solution, on the other hand, will remain in equilibrium, without shrinking or swelling inside.
