Two functions are shown below. f (x) = 3x+ 7 g(x) = 2x + 12 What is the value of x where f(x) = g(x)?

1) We've been told that there two functions, so let's equate them to find the value of x, which is common to both functions.

f(x) = g(x) Plug into that the whole function

3x+7 =2x +12 Subtract 7 from both sides

3x =2x +12 -7

3x = 2x +5 Subtract 2x from both sides

3x -2x=5

x =5
