half-circleSOLUTION:

We are to calculate the total area of the compounded shape (taking 3.14 for pi)

Step 1:

We are to find the area of the triangle;

\begin{gathered} \frac{base\text{ x height}}{2} \\ \\ \frac{12\text{ x 8}}{2} \\ \\ 48m^2 \end{gathered}

Step 2:

We are to find the area of the half-circle;

Radius = diameter/2 = 8/2 = 4m

\text{Area of a half circle = }(\pi r^2)/(2)\text{ = }\frac{3.14\text{ x 4 x 4}}{2}=25.12m^2

Step 3:

We are to find the total area;

The area of the triangle + The area of the half circle;

48m^2+25.12m^2=73.12m^2
