You have After reading The Lord of the Rings, Martina signs up for archery lessons. At her first lesson she sets up her target 5 feet away from her. After lots of practice, she now sets up her target 15 yards away. How many times farther away does Martina set up her target now?

Initial distance is, x=5 feet.

Final distance is, y=15 yards.

The objective is to find the number of times the target has bee set up farther away.

To find the scale factor of new target, convert the final distance into yards.


\begin{gathered} 1\text{ yard=}3\text{ f}eet \\ 15\text{ yard=3}\cdot15\text{ f}eet \\ 15\text{ yard=45 f}eet \end{gathered}

To find the scale factor consider the multiples as x.

Then,


\begin{gathered} 5\text{feet}* x=45\text{ f}eet \\ x=\frac{45\text{ fe}et}{5\text{ f}eet} \\ x=9 \end{gathered}

Hence, the new target is 9 times farther away than old target.
