The area of the rectangle is given by:

A=w\cdot l

where:

A = Area = 24

l = length = 2 3/4

w = width

so:

\begin{gathered} l=2(3)/(4)=(11)/(4)_{} \\ 24=(11)/(4)w \\ solve_{\text{ }}for_{\text{ }}w\colon \\ w=(96)/(11)=8(8)/(11) \\ \end{gathered}
