2 students added Na2Bu (aq) to CaCl2 (aq) in a test tube and observed a purple solid (CaBu) formed in the test tube. During this process, the test tube became warmer. The reaction between Na2Bu and CaCl2 produced a new solid compound CaBu and increased the temperature of the solution. We can say that the reaction is spontaneous and exothermic.

Then for a reaction to be spontaneous the sign of deltaG must be negative.

In an exothermic reaction (heat is released) the temperature increases and the entropy of the solution also increases. Since we have more disorder the deltaS is positive.

Answers: A) Positive A) Positive
