As x is the independient variable write y in terms of x (solve y):

x-y=3

Subtract x in both sides of the equation:

\begin{gathered} x-x-y=-x+3 \\ -y=-x+3 \end{gathered}

Multiply both sides of the equation by -1:

\begin{gathered} (-1)(-y)=(-1)(-x+3) \\ y=x-3 \end{gathered}

Substitute the y by f(x) to write it in function notation:

f(x)=x-3Answer: f(x)=x-3
