Answer:

x = 4, y = -0.5

or (4,-0.5)

Explanation:

Given:

  • 3x + 2y = 11. . . (i)
  • 6x - 2y = 25. . . . (ii)

Solution:

Adding equations (i) and (ii):

==> (3x + 2y) + (6x - 2y) = 11 + 25

2y gets cancelled:

==> 9x = 36

dividing the equation by 4:

==> x = 4

Substituting 4 for x in equation (i):

==> 3(4) + 2y = 11

==> 12 + 2y = 11

subtracting 12 from both sides:

==> 2y = 11 - 12

==> 2y = -1

dividing both sides by 2:

==> y = -1/2

==> y = -0.5
