The Volume of a Sphere

The volume of a sphere of radius r can be calculated as:

V=(4)/(3)\pi r^3

The sphere in the figure has a radius of r = 12 cm. Calculate the volume:

V=(4)/(3)\pi12^3

Approximating the value of π = 3:

V=(4)/(3)(3)12^3

The value of 12 cubed is 12*12*12 = 1728. Substituting:

\begin{gathered} V=(4)/(3)(3)(1728) \\ \text{Calculating:} \\ V=6912 \end{gathered}

The volume of the sphere is 6912 cubic cm
