ax^2+bx+c

a=1

b=-6

c=-16

Complete the square:

a ( x+ d)^2+e=0

Where:

d= b/2a = -6/ (2x1) = -3

e= c-b^2/4a = -16 -[ (-6)^2/4(1)] = -25

1 (x-3)^2-25 = 0

(x-3)^2 = 25

Take the square root on both sides of the equation:

x-3 = 5

Add 3 to both sides:

x =8
